Zdeno Chára (right), the tallest player in National Hockey League history, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto, Canada, on Nov. 10 for his 24-year career as a defenseman, primarily with the Boston Bruins, and member of their 2011 Stanley Cup champion team. The Bruins are owned by Delaware North Chairman Jeremy Jacobs. Chára is pictured with Nicklas Lidström, former Detroit Red Wings defenseman and 2015 Hockey Hall of Fame inductee.
During his acceptance speech, Chára, who is from Slovakia, noted the Jacobs’ role in welcoming him to the team.
“I made the decision to sign with the Boston Bruins. Mr. Jeremy Jacobs, Charlie Jacobs and the entire organization welcomed me and trusted me with the responsibility of leading one of the most iconic Original Six franchises,” he said. “Growing up in small town Slovakia, Trencin, you don’t dream about nights like this. You dream about a patch of ice that doesn’t melt before you finish practice, you dream about finding a stick that’s not broken or skates that can still fit for a couple more years.”

Gayle Murphy of The Westin Buffalo, owned and operated by Delaware North at corporate headquarters, was recognized as one of two “Roomkeepers of the Year” during the annual Stars of the Industry Awards hosted by the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association (NYSHTA) on Oct. 27 in Cooperstown, N.Y.

General Manager Tom Long and Assistant General Manager Zak Rambuss described Murphy in the award application: “Her work ethic is unmatched, her care for others is endless and her impact stretches far beyond the pristine rooms she meticulously maintains. She keeps our team grounded, motivated and full of heart.”
Team members from Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, which Delaware North operates for NASA on Florida’s Space Coast, in early November visited Fort Lauderdale and Miami for a media tour.
Winston Scott, retired NASA astronaut and resident astronaut at the visitor complex, joined the team to promote the visitor complex and share his unique perspective as a retired astronaut. Scott met with numerous broadcast and print media outlets, including the local ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates.
