WCVB (ABC) Channel 5’s Chronicle aired a 30-minute special last week celebrating three decades of TD Garden and its role in shaping Boston’s sports and entertainment landscape. The program featured Delaware North CEO and Boston Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs in two segments that explored both his personal connection to the arena and its broader impact on the city.
The segments – “For Charlie Jacobs, TD Garden a Source of Civic and Family Pride” and “Discover the Hidden Side of TD Garden” – showcased the significance of TD Garden and The Hub on Causeway in driving economic growth and fostering community engagement. The feature aired as part of TD Garden’s 30th anniversary, which was officially celebrated on Sept. 30.
“It’s a half-century of stewardship,” Charlie Jacobs said, referring to Delaware North’s role since his father, Delaware North Chairman Jeremy M. Jacobs, purchased the Boston Bruins and Boston Garden in 1975. “I’m incredibly proud of what we deliver to the people of Boston and New England.”

The episode offered a behind-the-scenes look at TD Garden, featuring Glen Thornborough, arena president and chief operating officer of the Boston Bruins; Joao Rebelo, director of operations; and Richard Johnson, curator of the Sports Museum.
Thornborough highlighted decades of history captured throughout the venue, including a hallway of performance banners mirroring the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics banners in the rafters – the most banners on display in any arena in North America – and discussed additional arena highlights.
“Today’s venue features improved seating, new dashboards and the longest bar in Boston, offering fans much more than a view. Everything – from the seats to the LED boards – has been redone,” he said.
Rebelo, a 30-year TD Garden team member, described the 24-hour operation, including changeover logistics from ice to court when home teams the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics play on the same day.
Johnson, who has served as the Sports Museum’s curator since 1982, discussed the museum’s role in preserving New England sports history and memorabilia.
