‘Nourishing Our Future’ brings healthier meals to Boys & Girls Clubs

VOL 26 ISSUE 44, Nov. 3, 2025

Main caption: Regional Executive Chef for Sportservice Steve Forman led several hands-on cooking demonstrations for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Buffalo to help youth gain essential skills and knowledge about making healthy and nutritious meals.

Through its longstanding partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs (BGC) of Buffalo, Delaware North and the BGC launched “Nourishing Our Future” in 2023 to help address food insecurity among children in Buffalo.

This $250,000 commitment has allowed the BGC to provide:

  • Better quality and more nutritious food for youth at the five clubhouses in  Buffalo
  • A new catering van and food-warming equipment to deliver meals
  • New cold storage units at the central commissary
  • New kitchen appliances for two individual clubhouses to host cooking classes

Steve Forman, regional executive chef for Sportservice, and Mike McCabe, chief legal and compliance officer, also serve on the board of directors for the local BGC.

Forman recently hosted four cooking classes at the Masten Clubhouse in East Buffalo.

Youth participants engaged in a hands-on demonstration to gain new skills in the kitchen, including how to set up cooking stations, use tools such as a citrus zester and a mortar and pestle, and prepare and plate their final dishes.

Forman helped the group prepare several meals, including tacos with fresh pico de gallo, vegetable kabobs with rice and chicken with pasta alfredo.
