Cybersecurity Awareness Month: generative AI

VOL 26 ISSUE 43, Oct. 27, 2025

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) reads and analyzes vast datasets to create valuable content such as summaries of meeting notes, improved written communications and research, but it also creates security and data privacy risks in the workplace.

Follow these tips to keep yourself and the company safe.

Security threats

  • AI can be used to craft phishing emails, malware code or social engineering attacks, including deepfakes. AI lowers the barrier for cybercriminals to launch sophisticated attacks.
  • Tip: Be wary of unexpected emails or phone calls that pressure you into acting and report suspicious activity to Delaware North’s Cybersecurity team using the “Report Phishing” feature in Outlook. Report suspicious phone calls or text messages to the Global IT Service Desk at 1-877-362-4843.

Data leakage

  • AI models may inadvertently generate or memorize sensitive personal information or corporate data through user prompts or outputs that could leak confidential information.
  • Tip: When processing business data, team members should only use Delaware North’s approved AI tool, Microsoft Copilot, which is integrated into the company’s Microsoft 365 account. Avoid sharing restricted company information, especially sensitive personal data, with Copilot.
