KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. (January 2008) – Columbus, a research laboratory module, will sail among a sea of stars aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at 2:45 p.m. EST. A limited number of tickets are still available to view the launch of STS-122 from Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, the closest public viewing site to the launch pad.
Columbus, the European Space Agency's largest single contribution to the International Space Station, will be conducted by the Harmony Node 2 and will permanently expand the research facilities of the Space Station supporting discoveries in the world of fluid physics, materials science and life sciences. Of the seven astronauts aboard STS-122, two are from the European Space Agency, and three will mark their first spaceflight.
As with all shuttle launches, special launch day activities will take place at the Visitor Complex. Guests will enjoy live NASA countdown audio and video presentations on a jumbo-sized screen, Astronaut appearances and launch briefings. Before witnessing the live Space Shuttle launch, park visitors can experience the sights, sounds and sensations of their own launch on the newest attraction at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, Shuttle Launch Experience.
Admission tickets must be purchased in advance to receive a placard to enter Kennedy Space Center. Tickets can be purchased online or by telephone. Visitor Complex admission is $38+ tax for adults and $28+ tax for children ages 3-11 and includes viewing of the Space Shuttle Atlantis launch from the Visitor Complex.
