For the third consecutive year, Delaware North Sportservice put on an all-star performance during Major League Baseball’s Midsummer Classic.
Under the direction of General Manager Susan Hawke, Delaware North’s food, beverage and retail operations at Petco Park – home of the San Diego Padres – were firing on all cylinders during the 2016 MLB All-Star Game, which included the always-popular Home Run Derby (Monday) and the game on Tuesday. In fact, the culinary operation – led by Executive Chef Carlos Vargas – drew high praise from several national media outlets, including USA Today, NBC Sports and ESPN.
“There is great creativity and a whole lot of work put into it, but it is not meant to shock or amuse,” NBC Sports writer Craig Calcaterra said of the food at Petco Park (read the full piece here). “It’s meant to be eaten and enjoyed. I got to eat and enjoy a lot of it thanks to concessionaire Delaware North Sportservice and (the) executive chef for Petco Park, Carlos Vargas.”
“This sandwich absolutely ruled,” he said. “The char-grilled pork stole the show with its familiar, summertime cookout charcoal flavor, complemented by a sweet and tangy barbecue sauce and some creamy, crunch cole slaw.”
Delaware North Sportservice also served fans at the 2014 All-Star Game at Target Field in Minneapolis and in 2015 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
