(July 11th, 2014) Heron Island has two new packages for loved-up holidaymakers looking to share some quality time together on the Southern Great Barrier Reef.
The Heron Island Honeymooner offers newlyweds sparkling wine and cheese on arrival, a private in-room dinner served on the balcony, a couples’ two-hour indulgence spa treatment at the Aqua Soul Spa and a sunset cruise with wine and cheese.
The three-night Heron Island Honeymooner costs from $2,399 in a Reef Room (twin share) and includes all meals and return launch transfers from Gladstone to Heron Island.
For couples who have already enjoyed some romance and are expecting their little bundle of joy, the Heron Island Babymooner offers plenty of pampering, relaxation and – if the timing is right – the chance to see hatching turtles.
Couples can enjoy chocolate-dipped strawberries on arrival, a private in-room dinner served on their balcony, a one-hour spa treatment at the Aqua Soul Spa, a snorkel trip and a sunset cruise.
The three-night Heron Island Babymooner starts from $1,999 in a Reef Room and includes all meals and return launch transfers from Gladstone to Heron Island.
Visits between December and May will also coincide with turtle hatching season on Heron Island, bringing with it plenty of new baby love as the Green and Loggerhead hatchlings emerge and make their way down to the ocean.
Ross Greenaway, Heron Island Resort General Manager, said: “Whether couples are here for their honeymoon or babymoon, nothing could be more romantic than a holiday for two on a coral cay on the Great Barrier Reef.”
Just a short boat ride from Gladstone, Heron Island is a nature lover’s paradise, offering a multitude of activities on land and underwater in a stunning marine wonderland.
New to Heron Island Resort this year is the semi-submarine – allowing visitors to experience the reef without getting wet – and kayaks for guests looking to see the reef and island from a different perspective.
Guests can also snorkel directly off the beach or on one of the three daily snorkel boat tours. An internationally acclaimed dive destination, Heron Island has at least 20 sites within easy reach of the resort. The diving is of such high standard that Jacques Cousteau listed the Heron Bommie as one of his top 10 favourite dive sites in the world.
Heron Island is also known for its large population of turtles who come back to breed every year.
From November through to March every year, a breeding population of Green and Loggerhead turtles comes ashore approximately three to seven times during a season. The turtles lay their eggs at the same location where they were born, laying on average 120 eggs in one clutch, and in some instances returning after an absence of 35-40 years since their birth.
Turtles migrate to Heron and Wilson Islands from as far afield as the Solomon Islands, Cape York and Harvey Bay and with careful guidelines for viewing, guests can observe this wonder of nature on a casual walk on the beach or on guided walks.
