YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (Oct. 23) — An all-electric vehicle – a Chevrolet Spark – was recently added to the Delaware North Parks & Resorts fleet at Yosemite National Park.
Unlike the hybrid shuttle buses that operate in Yosemite Valley, the Spark plugs in and runs only on electric charge. Used primarily as the Delaware North mail delivery vehicle in Yosemite Valley, the Spark can go for 82 miles on a single charge.
It was thought that such a unique addition to the GreenPath® program – Delaware North’s companywide environment management system – deserved distinctive recognition, so the management team on-site asked the Yosemite community to give it a name. And so the legend of “Zappy” was born, complete with an in-house designed logo.
Zappy’s logo was the result of ideas by Carson Fackler, a Delaware North maintenance associate at Yosemite, and Yosemite community member Jennie Marino. The logo was then designed by Jennifer Lopez, a Delaware North marketing coordinator at Yosemite.
Zappy, meanwhile, is driven by longtime mailroom associate Randy Pineda, a pillar of the Yosemite community whose nickname is – fittingly – “Pappy.”
