Delaware North announced the appointment of Robert Thormeier as the new chief operating officer of the company’s Travel division.
In his new role, Thormeier will oversee Delaware North’s foodservice and retail operations at 22 airports across the United States, including prominent locations such as Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport. He will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans for growth and profitability, building strong location and corporate management teams, and enhancing client relationships.
Thormeier has been a dedicated leader at Delaware North since 2010, beginning as the general manager at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. His leadership skills quickly propelled him to the role of general manager at Comerica Park, home of Major League Baseball’s Detroit Tigers – a Delaware North client since 1930. During his tenure, he oversaw all aspects of the company’s operation – concessions, premium hospitality services and retail – and he led Delaware North’s team through several high-profile events, including the World Series.
In 2016, Thormeier was promoted to vice president of operations for Delaware North Sportservice, based in Detroit. In this role, he successfully led operations at prominent locations such as MetLife Stadium (New Jersey), UBS Arena (Long Island), Red Bull Arena (New Jersey), Amalie Arena (Tampa), Little Caesars Arena (Detroit) and Comerica Park.
“Robert’s transition to the Travel division aligns perfectly with our commitment to developing a versatile talent pool,” said Scott Socha, group president of Delaware North Travel, Parks and Resorts, and Australia. “With Robert’s extensive experience in high-level operations and his unwavering commitment to client relationships, we are excited to have him lead our airport operations.”
Thormeier earned a bachelor’s degree at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he graduated with honors.
