Mikaila Ulmer is a young entrepreneur who started Me & the Bees Lemonade in 2008 when she was just 4 years old, and now her products are available in five flavors at more than 1,500 locations across Texas – including Delaware North operations at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Tell us more about Me & the Bees Lemonade.
Mikaila Ulmer: Me & the Bees Lemonade is a mission-based company dedicated to saving our pollinators while inspiring youth entrepreneurship. Our premium, honey-sweetened lemonade is made with real ingredients. With five fun and functional flavors, Me & the Bees is a fresh twist on a classic beverage, providing consumers a refreshing way to stay hydrated with around 120 calories per bottle. What is your mission in working with partners such as Delaware North?
MU: As a sustainable, strategic and diverse supplier, Me & the Bees Lemonade is honored to partner with Delaware North in its mission to create the world’s best experiences.

Why do you think it’s important to recognize Black History Month in the hospitality industry?
MU: Celebrating Black History Month gives Delaware North a chance to discover, explore and celebrate the many contributions African Americans have made to our culture and everyday lives. These contributions include not only food and beverages, but also professional services and technology. Let the celebration begin!

What role do you or your company have today in serving as catalysts for social justice and change?
MU: Through entrepreneurship, I teach youth and young adults ways to create self-sufficiency. Being able to determine one’s destination is the foundation of social justice and I’m proud to use my small business as a catalyst for change.
