Lizard Island set to reopen following $45 million renovation

Following an extensive, yearlong renovation in the wake of the destruction caused by Cyclone Ita, Delaware North-owned-and-operated Lizard Island Resort will soon reopen its doors.

The breathtaking island and 40-room luxury resort, located on Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, underwent a $45 million transformation – highlighted not only by repairs but also the addition of new spaces and added amenities.

“It has been a career highlight and a professional privilege to help restore Lizard Island and direct the evolution of the style and design of this much-loved resort,” said Greg Magi, executive director of Delaware North’s parks and resorts business in Australia. “I am confident that with this significant transformation, Lizard Island will regain its rightful position as one of the leading resorts in the world and ushering in its new era of luxury.”

The revamped resort will feature exquisite new enhancements, including the new stand-alone suite, The Villa, which features two bedrooms, each boasting in-suite luxury bathrooms; a finishing kitchen; a plunge pool; and an expansive deck with panoramic views across Sunset Beach and the Coral Sea. Guests staying in the new 1,022-square-foot suite will also enjoy exclusive food and beverage and activity inclusions.

The Pavilion suite, with its private gazebo and plunge anchorbaysuite-8982103pool, will now be expanded to include a separate lounge room; several of the Sunset Point Villas have added private plunge pools; and the popular beachfront Anchor Bay Suites and peaceful Garden Rooms will now feature LCD smart televisions.

The resort’s new design, led by Hecker Guthrie, draws inspiration from its stunning sky and ocean views, and the theme is carried throughout its guestrooms, lounge and restaurant.

In the dining areas, guests will once again enjoy Lizard Island’s gourmet Australian cuisine and wine. Also adding to the experience is the restaurant’s new dedicated wine room, along with an open, interactive kitchen, where guests will have the ability to interact with the executive chef and culinary team.

Lizard Island’s spa has been repositioned to provide further space to enjoy the many treatments, and it now includes a dedicated manicure and pedicure room. The Essentia Day Spa will offer La Biosthetique products – a reputable, international Parisian brand with premium quality, luxurious products.

The signature Lizard Island dinghies – a popular way for guests to explore one of the private beaches and enjoy a picnic lunch on the water – will remain a popular feature.  Glass-bottom kayaks, paddle boards and snorkeling straight off the beach onto ribbon reefs and clam gardens are perfect ways to discover the wonders of Lizard Island at one’s own pace. More adventurous types can also enjoy guided dive tours to the world-famous Cod Hole and fishing expeditions.
