The Gideon Putnam donates supplies to hurricane victims

In the aftermath of the recent hurricanes that devastated parts of Texas and Florida, people all over the world reached out to lend a hand — including associates from the Delaware North-operated Gideon Putnam in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

gideon_putnam_donation-6705040Led by Environmental Manager Heather Coton and Executive Housekeeper Pieter van Houten, The Gideon Putnam teamed up with The Giving Circle, a local nonprofit that was founded in 2005 in response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The organization’s mission is to seek out communities in need and connect them with those with the resources to help.

With just one week to organize their donation, associates at The Gideon Putman sprang into action. Coton posted flyers requesting donations from fellow associates, while van Houten, aided by HR Assistant Chris Dix, offered sheets and towels that had been taken out of circulation at the hotel. Jared Taisey, manager of the Roosevelt Baths & Spa, contributed more than 40 spa blankets.

Multiple generous associates donated clothing, which was ultimately not needed, based on information gathered by The Giving Circle reconnaissance team. But The Gideon will donate that clothing to a local charity.

On Sept. 12, associates filled The Gideon Putnam’s shuttle bus with the donated supplies and made their way to the local drop location. Coton reports that The Giving Circle — now on its way to the affected areas — was extremely appreciative of Delaware North’s donations.

“In times of tragedy, it is easy to see that goodness exists in all of us,” said Coton.
