Southland Casino Racing gives back to the Memphis community

Southland Casino Racing, Delaware North’s owned-and-operated casino and racetrack in West Memphis, Ark., is committed to supporting the community through volunteer efforts, donations and continued investments. Its Community Engagement Office, which identifies philanthropic opportunities, recently facilitated two events to give back to the people of West Memphis and the greater Memphis, Tenn., area.

The 29th annual Ronald McDonald House Radiothon raised more than $474,000 in critical funding for Ronald McDonald House of Memphis and the families who make it their home while battling cancer and other catastrophic childhood illnesses at nearby St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Many Southland Casino associates volunteered their time to take donations over the phone during the Radiothon. In addition, Southland hosted the “Rock the House” luncheon for the event and provided a hot lunch for the Ronald McDonald House families and volunteers during the Radiothon.

Southland Casino Racing also teamed up with Memphis TV station WREG this November to make a $5,000 sponsorship donation to WREG’s “Tim’s Coats for Kids.” Over 32 years, the Tim’s Coats for Kids drive has distributed more than 150,000 coats to children in need in the greater Memphis community. Viewers donated new and gentlyused coats at various locations throughout the community, including Southland Casino Racing.

Southland Casino associates were also encouraged to make monetary donations to the coat drive, which Southland matched. The money collected was used to purchase 42 new coats for the drive. In all, Southland associates and guests collected more than 200 coats for the drive.
