Earlier this week, Daytona Beach Racing & Card Club’s GuestPath team surprised more than 200 teachers around Volusia County with needed supplies to start the school year. Working in conjunction with representatives from the Volusia County School District, five schools were identified to receive the school supplies and the GuestPath team made the surprise deliveries on Tuesday.
Prior to the deliveries, the GuestPath team raised more than $4,000 through associate donations, bake sales, and tournament charity donations to purchase the supplies. Every classroom teacher from each of the identified schools was surprised with a school supply bag.
According to a survey released by the U.S. Department of Education in April 2018, over 90 percent of public school teachers in the United States reported paying hundreds of dollars for supplies without reimbursement, which is why the Daytona team sprang into action.
“My team is so excited to be able to do this for our local Volusia County teachers,” said Shannon McCormack, cage manager and GuestPath coordinator. “We wanted to give back and bring attention to the fact teachers have to supply their classrooms with their own money. We have been working with the principals to surprise each one of them. I am proud of what we were able to accomplish this year and look forward to making it bigger and better next year!”
