Two Wedding Icons Unite

The Plaza Grand Ballroom To Host Martha Stewart Weddings’ 15TH Anniversary Celebration

New York – October 06, 2009: On Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, the Grand Ballroom of The Plaza will be the setting for a party celebrating the 15th anniversary of Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. Over 700 people from the bridal industry are expected to join Darcy Miller, SVP, editorial director and Amy Wilkins, SVP publisher, to mark this milestone in the magazine’s history. The party will coincide with New York Bridal Week from Oct. 14 through Oct. 21.

Renowned for a century as the premier destination for weddings, The Plaza’s Grand Ballroom will partner with Martha Stewart Weddings to showcase the talents of a variety of vendors and craftspeople who have contributed to the magazine.

CPS Events, a joint venture between Great Performances and Delaware North Companies, manages and caters all the events in the ballroom. Among the many highlights of the event will be Great Performances’ unique appetizer tasting station that showcases their innovative approach to modern cuisine at The Plaza featuring the freshest local ingredients as well as produce from their Katchkie Farm fields located in Upstate New York. Guests will enjoy such delectable delights as tomato carpaccio, duck roulade, and beet and apple salad. Peter Callahan of Callahan Catering and Chef Masaharu Morimoto will be offering additional culinary creations.

Event Designer Matthew Robbins will oversee the exclusive ballroom décor featuring his own floral designs. Event production is being coordinated by Claudia Hanlin of the Wedding Library. Another anniversary moment will be a “retrospective” of the fabulous wedding cakes featured in the magazine from a variety of cake masters.

“An event of this significance belongs in The Plaza Grand Ballroom,” says Liz Neumark, CEO of Great Performances. It is an honor to host Martha Stewart Weddings’ 15th Anniversary celebration.”

In addition to Martha Stewart Weddings’ 15th Anniversary, The Plaza Grand Ballroom recently hosted NBC’s “Today Show Throws a Wedding” and has been the venue for many of the city’s most memorable parties – Truman Capote’s Black & White Ball and Sarah Jessica Parker’s 40th birthday bash – and scenes from countless classics were filmed in the ballroom including Hitchcock’s North by Northwest and the recent blockbuster Bride Wars.
