TD Garden hosts 2025 World Figure Skating Championships

VOL 26 ISSUE 14, April 7, 2025

TD Garden in Boston earlier this month hosted the 2025 International Skating Union (ISU) World Figure Skating Championships, attracting over 100,000 spectators from around the world to Boston.

Fans and athletes gather outside Banners Kitchen & Tap adjacent to TD Garden for the International Skating Union (ISU) World Figure Skating Championships, attracting over 100,000 spectators to Boston for the five-day event.

TD Garden, owned and operated by Delaware North, last hosted the championships in 2016, generating an estimated $40 million in economic spending. Given the increased popularity and improvements in infrastructure, this year’s event is estimated to hit $50 million in local economic impact through spending on hotels, restaurants, transportation and other services.

While this event was largely a celebration of incredible athletic talent and sportsmanship, the local organizing committee included a moment of remembrance for the lives lost in the January plane crash over the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. The tragedy took the lives of two dozen people who were returning from a development camp following the U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, ISU president Jae Youl Kim, U.S. Figure Skating President Sam Auxier, and Doug Lane, who lost his wife and son in the crash, addressed the crowd while a montage of videos and photos played on TD Garden’s Hub Vision.

As the competition continued, fans witnessed several historic moments, especially for Team USA. Alysa Liu won the first Women’s World Championships Gold for Team USA since 2006, along with dance pairs Madison Chock and Evan Bates and men’s singles star Ilia Malinin, bringing Team USA gold in three out of the four disciplines.

TD Garden and Delaware North Sportservice took advantage of the on-ice action by inviting Jimmy Ma, Skating Club of Boston member, to sample Executive Chef Jason Gorman’s lobster roll in the 1928 Club.

TD Garden also collaborated with Monique Coleman, a star from the Disney Channel’s “High School Musical” movies, on social media posts featuring a custom-made Boston Bruins jersey. Coleman also presented World Champion Ilia Malinin with a custom “QuadG0d” Bruins Centennial jersey after his stunning short program performance on day two of the competition.
