What led you to work in the restaurant industry, and what keeps you passionate?

“I was drawn to the restaurant industry because of my love for food, creativity and the fast-paced, dynamic environment it offers. What keeps me passionate is the opportunity to connect with people, constantly learn and grow, and be part of creating memorable experiences for guests.” – Katie Weatherwax, restaurant manager, Maria and Enzo’s, Orlando

“As a teenager, my good friend’s mom owned and operated a historic Inn in my hometown and one holiday she needed extra help and that opened the door to a career of over twenty years in various roles in hospitality and restaurants. I was immediately drawn to the diversity and excitement a single day in the restaurant can provide.” – Ruth Argiro, server and administrative assistant, Patina 250, Buffalo

Who was the first woman who inspired you to pursue your career?

“My foster mother helped give me the confidence to believe I could achieve anything I set my mind to. She inspired me by pursuing higher education, taking classes and always learning new skills. She tried her hand at many different jobs, but hospitality was the one she stayed with throughout most of her time working.” – Ricki Stephens, catering sales manager, STATE Grill and Bar, New York City

“My mom told me to figure out what I love and how to get paid for it. She was a working mom of four and went back to school to get her MBA. She always said, ‘Don’t let anything stand in your way’.” – Colleen Zielinski, executive sous chef, Patina Catering and PGA of America events, Los Angeles

“I was inspired by my mother and her resilience throughout my childhood. She taught me how to balance career growth and motherhood, cheering me on the entire way through all trials and success that came my way.” – Ashley Alli, pastry chef, Space 220 Restaurant, Orlando

How can we continue to empower and uplift women in the workplace, especially in traditionally male-dominated fields?

“I’m grateful to have encouraging leaders who mentor and support women. Their guidance helps me navigate challenges, experience new opportunities and grow in my career. As one of the few women supervisors, I aspire to empower other women by building their confidence and leadership skills.” – Rayane Almeida, server and supervisor, Banners Kitchen & Tap, Boston

“Treat women fairly in the workplace. A person’s gender should not dictate how valuable they are to a company. If everything were equitable, we could eliminate the stigma of male-dominated fields.” –  Jessica Dao, front-of-house manager, The Edison, Orlando

What advice do you have for woman just starting their careers?

“Lift each other up. We can accomplish so much by working together to drive our success.” – Jessica Basarath, controller, Patina Orlando

Central Florida Lifestyle Magazine and foodservice publication FSR also recognized some of the Patina leaders creating culinary magic for Disney guests in Orlando.

“Do not focus on your weaknesses, focus on your passion!” – Elizabeth Hernandez, sous chef, Paseo, Anaheim, Calif.
