Main caption: Charlie Jacobs (third from right), Delaware North CEO and Boston Bruins CEO, last month joined the unveiling of the new Boston Bruins Foundation Pediatric Hematology Oncology Infusion Room at Mass General Brigham for Children (MGBfC) inside Massachusetts General Hospital. Pictured at the unveiling, from left, are Dr. Phoebe Yager, MGBfC chief of critical care; Dr. Allan Goldstein, MGBfC chief of pediatric surgery; Bob Sweeney, president of the Boston Bruins Foundation; Dr. Howard Weinstein, MGBfC chief of pediatric hematology and oncology; Jacobs; Heather Peach, child life specialist; and Jonathan Zucker, mural artist.

The Boston Bruins Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital last month unveiled a Bruins‑themed pediatric oncology treatment room at the hospital’s Yawkey Building – Center for Outpatient Care. The Bruins and MGH partnered with local artist Jonathan Zucker to design, paint and install a mural depicting more than a century of Bruins history.

Charlie Jacobs,  Delaware North CEO and Boston Bruins CEO, and Bob Sweeney, president of the Boston Bruins Foundation, joined a ceremonial ribbon‑cutting led by Dr. Howard Weinstein, lead pediatric oncologist and hematologist for Mass General Brigham for Children (MGBfC). They were joined by physicians and specialists to officially open the room for children and families undergoing treatment.

“To my right is a wall full of three Hall of Fame defensemen, and I think it’s a great analogy for what MGH does as the first line of defense for a lot of kids,” Jacobs said as he toured the space for the first time. “It means a lot to have our brand and our colors up here.”

Watch a video of the ribbon-cutting and unveiling on YouTube:

“It’s an old locker room with the history of Boston — the ‘Perfection Line,’ Willie O’Ree, the flying Bobby Orr and the championship spirit — and we’re trying to encapsulate that joyful, healing, fighting spirit and bring it into pediatric oncology in a way that makes patients feel they’re part of the team,” Zucker said of his work.

The Boston Bruins Foundation Pediatric Hematology Oncology Infusion Room is part of an ongoing partnership between the NHL team and Mass General Brigham (MGB), which serves as the team’s official sports medicine and orthopedics provider. The Bruins and MGB collaborate on a variety of initiatives throughout the year to raise health awareness and reach underserved communities.
