Boston Bruins name David Pastrnak as 28th captain in team history

VOL 27 ISSUE 39, October 5, 2026

The Boston Bruins, the National Hockey League team owned by Delaware North Chairman Jeremy Jacobs, last week announced that David Pastrnak has been named the 28th captain in franchise history.

Pastrnak joins a distinguished group of former Bruins captains, including 16 Hockey Hall of Famers and nine players whose numbers have been retired by the organization. Patrice Bergeron will become the 10th former Bruins captain to receive that honor when his No. 37 is retired in December.

“My biggest goal is to be the best version for the team and the Bruins organization,” Pastrnak said. “I always am honest with you guys that I have no plan to change. I’m happy with the way I was raised, and I am trying to make my mother proud every day.”

Entering his 13th NHL season, Pastrnak has played in 833 career games, all with the Bruins, recording 420 goals and 513 assists for 933 points and a plus-145 rating. He ranks among the top 10 in franchise history in goals, assists, points and points per game.

The 30-year-old is tied for first in franchise history with eight 30-goal seasons and tied for second with five 40-goal seasons. He is also one of just two Bruins players to score 60 goals in a season, accomplishing the feat in 2022-23. Pastrnak ranks second in franchise history with 19 hat tricks and among the top five in power-play goals and multipoint games. He is also one of three players in franchise history to record at least four consecutive 100-point seasons.

“Me and my family, we’re super grateful to the Boston organization and the Boston fans,” Pastrnak said. “I’m raising my own family here with my wife, so couldn’t be more proud to represent the Bruins organization. We take big pride in it.”
