New restaurant — Patina 250 — opens in downtown Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Patina 250, a new downtown Buffalo restaurant showcasing local ingredients and a wood-fired grill, is officially open at 250 Delaware Avenue.

Chef Homer Ford has returned to Buffalo after years in New York City (most recently as executive chef of patina250final-8460713Isabella’s). Patina 250, and the adjacent grab-and-go next door, Jake’s Café, mark the first restaurant by Delaware North and its upscale dining subsidiary, Patina Restaurant Group.

“We are thrilled to open the doors to Patina 250 and invite the city to join us for dinner,” said Matt King, president of Patina Restaurant Group.

Dishes exemplify Chef Ford’s deft touch with the classics of the city, each with thoughtful, flavor-infused variations. Highlights include Pierogi filled with potatoes, leeks and onions; Brook Trout served with parsley and radish salad; Smoked Fish Chowder; and an Empire Salad. The restaurant’s wood-fired grill infuses a nuanced smoky quality to caramelized and charred Double-Cut Pork Chops, NY Strip Steaks with green peppercorn sauce, and Tomahawk Rib Eyes for two. Pastrami on Weck is Chef Ford’s take on the beloved Buffalo-born sandwich made on a kümmelweck caraway seed roll.  Buffalo’s own Flat #12 Mushrooms – gorgeous, sustainably grown oyster mushrooms – are a notable side dish. The 250 Burger is crafted with green tomato jam, Cabot clothbound cheddar, crispy onions, bibb lettuce, and the house 250 sauce. Crispy Cauliflower – Chef Ford’s veggie wing – is an addictive new pairing for the city’s iconic Buffalo wing sauce.

“I always planned to return to Buffalo with my wife, Raven. We met here when I first started cooking,” Chef Ford said. “Cooking is what makes me happiest, and I’m excited to be back home to cook for the city I love.”

The restaurant interior, by David Shea of Shea Design, offers a casually sophisticated atmosphere, with a variety of areas to enjoy cocktails, snacks or a full dining experience. An eclectic collection of light fixtures set a modern mood, and a large millstone is present in the space — referencing Buffalo’s industrial history.

Local artists also contributed their work, including Fotini Galanes' evocative charcoal illustration murals adorning the walls and Peter Stephens’ “Big Bang” painting and sculptural wall installation, which adds color. And using reproductions of plaster moldings, artist Sarah Fonzi created the installation on the soffit facing Delaware Avenue.

Patina 250 is located at 250 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14202. It will be open for à la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Reservations will be available via 716-290-0600 and www.patina250.com.
