Niagara Falls State Park Named Top’Green’ Destination in New York

Oldest state park featured in I Love New York’s “Green Heart” Promotion

Niagara Falls State Park topped New York’s top ten green travel destinations today by I Love New York, as part of the state tourism agency’s new “Green Heart NY” promotion initiative.

“It’s truly fitting that New York’s oldest state park topped the list of green destinations in the year of its 125th anniversary,” said Carol Ash, Commissioner of the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. “New York’s state parks are our greenest and greatest treasures, drawing tens of millions of visitors every year – not only because they’re affordable vacation destinations right in our own backyard – but because there’s nothing else like them in the world.”

I Love New York noted Niagara Falls “is going green! Some of the green modifications made at the park include a trolley fleet that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG), all other vehicles running on alternate fuels, solar lighting at Cave of the Winds, low energy lighting at the rapids and throughout the park, and using river water for the sprinkler systems.”

Niagara Falls State Park was one of four State Parks to make the top 10. Letchworth State Park, Taughannock Falls State Park and Saratoga Spa State Park are also on the list. To see the top 10, visit: http://www.iloveny.com/what-to-do/reasons-to-love-ny/green-destinations.aspx
