International coffee shop is latest concept to open at Charleston International Airport

Delaware North’s foodservice program at CHS brings mix of local, proprietary and national brands

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C., August 13, 2024 – Delaware North, a global hospitality and entertainment company, is excited to announce a new addition at Charleston International Airport as part of the company’s 10-year contract extension. The contract was awarded in 2023 and includes a comprehensive plan to reimagine several foodservice outlets, including the opening of a new Starbucks location.

The new Starbucks, which officially opened July 18 in the Terminal A-B Connector, offers handcrafted coffee beverages, premium teas and delectable treats. Known for its high-quality arabica coffee, Starbucks brings its signature experience to travelers with a fully integrated point of sale, SBUX Loyalty and mobile app functionalities.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Charleston International Airport and bring beloved brands such as Starbucks to our travelers,” said Michael Blake, director of operations for Delaware North’s airport operations. “Our goal is to enhance the traveler experience by providing exceptional dining options, and the addition of Starbucks is a key part of that vision.”

Delaware North is proud to operate the Starbucks in collaboration with joint-venture partners Marlon Kimpson, former South Carolina state senator, and Robert Bucholz, local attorney and businessman; and ACDBE (Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise) partner Shawnalea Garvin.

“We are excited to blend the warmth of Starbucks with the spirit of Charleston International Airport,” said Elliott Summey, executive director and CEO for Charleston County Aviation Authority (CCAA). “Here, every cup of coffee is crafted to fuel your journey and every visit is a chance to experience a moment of comfort and connection before you take off. Cheers to new adventures and the simple joy of a perfect coffee break.”

Reimagining Airport Dining

Delaware North in November 2023 celebrated the opening of Commonhouse Aleworks near Gate B5. The airport outpost of the popular North Charleston brewery replaced the former Sam Adams Bar and features more than 1,250 square feet – complete with six taps of Commonhouse craft beer and an elevated pub fare menu.

Additional projects in the works:

  • Ashley Cooper Provisions (in the Terminal A-B Connector): Harvest & Grounds will be transformed into Ashley Cooper Provisions, a Delaware North proprietary concept that will provide a local vibe with an expanded footprint. The bar will feature a 50-seat area overlooking the tarmac, creating a family-friendly “rooftop” ambiance. Construction is underway, with an opening date planned for later this year.
  • Southern Table by Kardea Brown (in the Terminal A-B Connector): The Jack Nicklaus Golden Bear Grill will be transformed into Southern Table by Kardea Brown, featuring the renowned local celebrity chef known for her roots in traditional Gullah cuisine. Brown, host of the Food Network series “Delicious Miss Brown,” will showcase the rich cultural heritage of Charleston through her culinary creations. Construction is expected to begin in early 2025.
