CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (Dec. 19, 2015) — KENNEDY SPACE CENTER – “Holidays in Space,” Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s unique high-tech celebration, gives guests an out-of-this-world opportunity to celebrate the holidays with is bigger and better than ever in its fourth year Dec. 19 through Jan. 3.
Holidays in Space highlights include “Spirit of Exploration,” a one-of-a-kind presentation of space and holiday imagery shown on the side of the 223-foot-long Saturn 1B rocket in the visitor complex’s Rocket Garden. The presentation, back for its second year, takes guests on a journey through NASA’s history and plans for the future. “Spirit of Exploration” features custom animation blended with historic footage of actual launches and awe-inspiring views of Earth to create a completely unique outdoor cinematic experience, complete with stadium-style seating.
With 223-feet of rocket as the “screen” and multi-projector capability, multiple images and videos can be shown simultaneously or one single, powerful image can be projected during “Spirit of Exploration.” A dramatic musical score, actual launch audio and other sound effects, in conjunction with the all new “Rocket Garden Light Show” that uses moveable lights to illuminate rockets throughout the Rocket Garden, complete the immersive sensory experience.
In addition, now through Jan. 3 the visitor complex is adorned for the holiday season with a stunning array of decorations including a 41-foot holiday tree decorated with lights and flags of the countries that helped build the International Space Station, a giant NASA “meatball” ornament, garlands, lights, ribbons, bows and more. New this year is the Holidays in Space logo and snowflake images projected onto the roof of the IMAX Theater.
“It was just incredible being here with the rockets and it’s a magical experience anyway. And to see the work that went into a show like that. It’s just really amazing and thrilling to get the music and the lights and everything together,” said Megan Brown, Orlando, FL.
“I think it was amazing with the mixture of the lights and the colors and the music but really capturing part of history with all of these rockets and missiles. I think in combination with the holiday spirit I think it was amazing, it was very insightful and really brought out the holiday in everyone,” said Jorge Barbosa, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
All holiday activities are included with visitor complex admission; no advance reservations are required. Light shows begin at dusk each day. The visitor complex is open 365 days a year, including Christmas Day, Dec. 25.
Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex’s holiday hours of operation are:
Dec. 19-20: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dec. 21-Jan 3: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Dec. 25: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
