Two Delaware North United Kingdom sports venues were recognized for “making an outstanding contribution within sports and leisure catering across the UK” at an awards ceremony in London on September 11.
The awards sponsor, SLC (Sports & Leisure Catering) Magazine, named Delaware North at London Stadium “Event Caterer of the Year” and Wembley Stadium “Stadium of the Year.” This was the 4th annual SLC Awards, which honored candidates across nine categories.
Delaware North manages event-day catering and concessions at London Stadium, home of Premier League football club West Ham United. And since 2006, Delaware North has been the sole operator of hospitality services at Wembley Stadium, home to English football and some of the world’s biggest concerts and events.
The London Stadium team won the event catering award for its stellar performance during London Series ’19 – Major League Baseball’s first-ever regular season series played in Europe this past June.
Daniel Clark, Delaware North UK operations director, noted the judges recognized not just the size and scale of the competition, but also the fantastic demonstration of Delaware North’s US colleagues who supported the event.
“We are very much looking to build on this tremendous success for next year’s London Series ’20,” Clark said.
Wembley Stadium earned the stadium of the year title for successfully managing a larger- than-usual event schedule. The 90,000-seat stadium had more than 50 high-profile sporting events, including two NFL games and 14 sold-out concerts.
Wembley Stadium beat out notable competitors, including the Tottenham Hotspur’s new $850 million stadium that opened last year and Twickenham Stadium, England’s national rugby stadium.
