Delaware North recently became appointed as the sole hospitality services provider for the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), furthering the company’s presence in Australia where it’s had significant operations for more than 30 years.
With a capacity of more than 100,000, the MCG is the largest sporting stadium in the Southern Hemisphere. It hosts several Australian Football League (AFL) teams, as well as cricket matches, concerts, other special events and non-event-day functions. A mix of locally recognized brands complement fan favorites and enhance the guest and member experience at the stadium.
The venue hosted several matches during the AFL’s Finals, in addition to the culmination on Sept. 24 with 100,024 fans in attendance.
Delaware North Australia’s Director of Hospitality Justin Cavenett said it is truly a team effort for the 2,250-plus associates who prepared the culminating match.
“I’m incredibly proud of the passion and dedication exhibited by every single member of our amazing team here at the MCG since we commenced operations earlier this year,” Cavenett said. “The commitment and perseverance demonstrated by our team – especially throughout an incredibly challenging year for the hospitality industry – has been nothing short of phenomenal.”
Delaware North also manages the hospitality services at the MCG across event days, non-event days and for all corporate suites and functions. This appointment, combined with Delaware North’s longstanding partnerships with Marvel Stadium in Melbourne and Melbourne & Olympic Parks, home of the Australian Open Tennis Championships, increases the company’s status as a leader within the Australian stadia hospitality industry.
