Delaware North Talent Acquisition leaders share insights during interview with ZipRecruiter podcast

Amy Duncan-Menendez, vice president of talent acquisition and global innovation center at Delaware North, and Laura Murray, director of employer branding and strategy, were featured on the July 29 episode of “Talent All-Stars,” a podcast produced by leading online employment marketplace ZipRecruiter.

Hosted by David Travers, president of ZipRecruiter, the podcast includes insightful discussions with influential leaders in human resources, recruitment and talent acquisition representing some of the world’s leading organizations.

During the episode, Duncan-Menendez and Murray discussed the transformation of Delaware North’s complex talent ecosystem, including the importance of building a centralized talent model that factors in the unique needs of operating locations while also driving consistency and efficiency.

Duncan-Menendez spoke about creating centralized and consistent processes:

We needed scalability, we needed consistent processes, and that’s not what I found when I arrived. We lacked not just consistent processes, but we lacked the documentation of that process … we needed to get to a place where we had a framework. And by doing that and getting that consistent process, we were then able to have scalability in the team. So then, whether you are recruiting for TD Garden or you’re recruiting for Globe Life Field, that process is the same.

Murray spoke about the importance of using data to inform recruitment and hiring strategies:

We have access to the data. We can see how things are going, where there’s a lack of applicant flow, or maybe where there’s too much applicant flow and … maybe in this location, the managers don’t have the bandwidth to do interviews, so instead, we’re going to have the recruiters do the screening and selection. We can see that data and know when we do need to flex that model, and we can make those recommendations to the locations.

Murray also discussed the importance of keeping the Delaware North name and brand at the forefront of every opportunity, even though many positions are tied to an iconic location or professional sports team:

We always include the Delaware North logo in anything we do, because ultimately, we’re trying to hire for Delaware North, and we want people to know that there’s other opportunities here.

We want to be consistent across the board. So, while it could be appealing to just use those client logos or the National Park logos, ultimately, I’m trying to play the long game and make sure we have Delaware North out there when it comes to recruitment.
