Delaware North’s Gaming and Racing Locations Pony Up Triple Crown Promotions, Offer Simulcast Wagering on Belmont Stakes

BUFFALO, N.Y. (June 5, 2014) – When California Chrome tries to become the first horse to capture the Triple Crown in 37 years at Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, racing fans will be enjoying plenty of special promotions at many of Delaware North’s gaming and racing locations across the United States.

Delaware North has had a long history with horse racing since it began operating concessions at racetracks in the 1930s. In the early 1960s, the company acquired Finger Lakes Racetrack and has continued to own and operate the thoroughbred racetrack near Rochester, N.Y. Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment also operates racing simulcast centers, broadcasting races from around the United States, at many of its locations.

“A race for the Triple Crown is one of the biggest events in all of sports, and there’s nothing bigger in horse racing,” said Deborah Murray, vice president of marketing for Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment. “Our gaming and racing venues have created a number of exciting special promotions to enhance the experience for our guests so they can have even more fun while they enjoy race day on Saturday.”

A number of Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment locations will offer special race promotions on Saturday. Here are the highlights:

Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack in Farmington, N.Y., is giving the first 1,000 members of its players club in attendance Saturday an official commemorative Belmont Stakes glass. The first 500 also receive a $2 Win bet on California Chrome in the Belmont. Wagering vouchers valued up to $100 will also be awarded in drawings from the fourth through eight races Saturday at Finger Lakes.

A California-themed burger – including lettuce, tomato, pepper jack cheese, bacon and avocado – will be available. A special California Chrome themed drink will also be available: Lavender-infused fresh-squeezed lemonade, Black Button Distillery citrus gin (made at the Rochester Public Market) and Pomegranate liqueur float. It’s garnished with a cocktail umbrella and lemon wheel.

Miami Valley Gaming, a joint venture of Delaware North Companies and Churchill Downs Inc. that opened in December between Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio, leveraged its strong ties to the Triple Crown in April by giving away VIP trips to some of its patrons to attend the first leg, the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville. Now Miami Valley Gaming, whose first harness racing season ended in May, is hosting a Belmont Watch Party beginning at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, with a number of drink specials and other promotions. Patrons can also wager on the race in the venue’s new simulcast center.

Hamburg Gaming near Buffalo, N.Y., will feature race viewing at its Cyclone bar and a California Chrome tribute drink, “The Nasal Strip,” made with Captain Morgan spiced rum, amaretto, Malibu rum and Pepsi Cola. Free shuttles will take patrons to nearby Buffalo Raceway, which is also on the grounds of the Erie County Fairgrounds. Buffalo Raceway offers live harness racing and simulcast wagering on the Belmont.

Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack in Wheeling, W.Va., is offering its Players Club members different levels of free play based on how California Chrome finishes in the Belmont, and they can enter the Wheeling Island Slot Derby to win a share of $5,000 in free play. Table games players can enter a drawing for a share of $1,000. Patrons can purchase Triple Crown T-shirts and also wager on the Belmont at Wheeling Island’s simulcast center.

Southland Park Gaming & Racing in West Memphis, Ark., near Memphis Tenn., is offering patrons a chance to win free play Saturday with lucky numbers. Patrons whose lucky number matches the number of the winning horse in the Belmont win $33 in free play, while if California Chrome wins, those patrons with his number win $333 in free play. Patrons can also wager on the Belmont at Southland Park’s simulcast center.

Daytona Beach Kennel Club & Poker Room in Daytona Beach, Fla., will give away Triple Crown T-shirts, beads and host a free concert on the venue’s Budweiser Stage at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. A Belmont Hat Contest will kick things off from noon to 3 p.m., and a signature Triple Chrome cocktail with collector glass are also available. The Poker Room will feature $599 high hands bonuses every 20 minutes.

In Arizona, the Apache Greyhound Park in East Valley, Max’s Sports Bar in Glendale and Apache’s Off-Track Betting network throughout the state will offer wagering on the Belmont at their simulcast centers. Apache and Max’s are offering food and beverage discounts on Saturday, and Max’s will have drawings for various prizes.
