Tom Barney serves as senior vice president and treasurer for Delaware North. Barney leads key financial functions for Delaware North and all of its operating companies: worldwide cash management activities specific to business operations, capital projects and acquisitions; risk management and merchant services. Overall, he provides strategic and tactical leadership to optimize Delaware North’s financial resources while managing relationships with external capital providers, including banks throughout the world.
His appointment to senior vice president and treasurer in October 2020 represents the latest promotion of many during Barney’s 30-year career with Delaware North.
From June 2018 through 2020, Barney led Patina Restaurant Group initially as vice president of finance, and later the chief operating officer of Patina. During this time, Patina became fully integrated as a division of Delaware North, transitioning its leadership from previous owners, and opened several new operations in Boston. In 2017, Barney accepted the role of vice president of treasury and held that role until his transition to COO of Patina in early 2019.
From 2009 to 2017, he served as vice president of finance for the company’s Parks and Resorts business, overseeing all financial aspects, including budgeting, financial forecasting, financial statement preparation and annual audits. Barney was instrumental in the financial analyses for four new National Park Service contracts and the acquisition of several hotels, as well as the negotiations for new contracts with NASA for Delaware North’s operation of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
In addition to the extensive U.S. Parks and Resorts portfolio of owned lodging properties and national and state park operations, Barney has also overseen the finances for Delaware North’s diverse Australian portfolio of lodging properties and sports, airport and cultural venue hospitality operations since 2013.
Prior to that, Barney was director of strategic planning for Delaware North, focusing on corporate development opportunities, corporate financing and financial forecasting activities, and supporting the implementation of the company’s strategic plan.
He began his career with Delaware North in 1993 as an associate financial analyst and has held financial positions with all of Delaware North’s operating businesses.
Barney has an MBA from the University at Buffalo and a bachelor’s degree in finance from Rochester Institute of Technology. In 2022, he was named chair of the Dean’s Advisory Council (DAC) for the University at Buffalo School of Management. He is also a 2009 graduate of Delaware North’s Pinnacle III career development program.
