Jacobs Jr. Highlights 2010 International Business Distinguished Speaker Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. (April 6, 2010) – The International Business Distinguished Speaker Series returns in 2010 to highlight one of the region’s most respected business leaders.  Jerry Jacobs Jr., a Principal of Delaware North Companies, one of the most admired, family-owned hospitality companies in the world, will be the keynote speaker for this year’s event on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery at 7:30 a.m.  Jacobs will highlight the international growth of Delaware North Companies, and what opportunities are ahead for the 95-year-old company.  The event is complimentary, although advance registration through the World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara website at www.wtcbn.com is required.

Delaware North Companies is comprised of several operating companies that include global industry leaders in food and retail operations at airports and professional sports venues, sports facility ownership and management, operations of parks and major tourist attractions, hotel ownership and management, and gaming operations.  Delaware North started in 1915 as a concession operator to theatres in Buffalo and sports venues in Buffalo and Syracuse and has grown into multi-billion dollar global company.

“Delaware North Companies has continued a legacy of great leadership under the Jacobs banner, and it continues with Jerry Jr., Lou and Charlie,” says Chris Johnston, President of World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara.

Jacobs joined the family company in 1989 and became Chairman of Sportservice, Delaware North Companies’ oldest subsidiary, in 1995.  In 2001, Jacobs was named among the most influential in sports by Street & Smith’s SportsBusiness Journal’s Forty Under 40.

The International Business Distinguished Speaker Series is designed to allow executives from international companies in Western New York to explain how and why their companies decided to pursue international business opportunities.  Over 350 business leaders attended last year’s event, highlighted by Rich Products President and CEO William G. Gisel.  The series is presented by World Trade Center Buffalo Niagara (WTCBN), HSBC Bank, and University at Buffalo School of Management’s HSBC Center for Global Business Leadership.
