WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Dec. 5, 2011) – The Arkansas Greyhound Kennel Association donated $30,000 to local charities Saturday, Nov. 5, at the second annual Paws for a Cause event, hosted by Southland Park Gaming and Racing.
 
Each year, The Arkansas Greyhound Kennel Association donates part of its purse money earned throughout the year. More than $60,000 has been raised and donated to area charities in the past two years alone. A six-race greyhound handicapping contest determined the donation made to each charity. Each charity was guaranteed a minimum of $1,000, with the handicapping winner receiving $10,000.
 
Participating charities in the handicapping contest and the donation awarded are listed first- through tenth-place below:
 
  • Crittenden Regional Hospital Foundation: $10,000
  • Delta Arts: $5,000
  • Mid-South Greyhound Adoption Option: $3,500
  • Mid-South Community College Foundation: $2,500
  • Families in Transition: $2,000
  • St. Michael Catholic School: $1,800
  • March of Dimes: $1,600
  • Boys & Girls Club of Crittenden County: $1,400
  • Good Neighbor Love Center: $1,200
  • Steudlein Learning Center: $1,000
