BUFFALO, N.Y. (April 6, 2007) ? The Football Association, which organizes the oldest football competition in the world -- the Football Association Challenge Cup (FA Cup) -- has confirmed this year's championship game will be played at Wembley Stadium on May 19.

"I'm happy to confirm that the 2007 FA Cup Final will be played at Wembley Stadium," said FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick. "It's the announcement that a lot of people have been waiting for and is great news for football fans in this country and indeed the world over."

The FA also announced the FA Carlsberg Trophy and The FA Carlsberg Vase Finals will be held at Wembley Stadium on May 12 and 13 at a capped capacity as part of the buildup to the official opening on May 19.

The stadium has also been named the site of the first ever National Football League game to be played outside North America. That game will take place between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants next October.

Receiving clearance

The FA Cup announcement was made shortly after Wembley Stadium received its general safety certificate and, thus, clearance to host events with up to 90,000 spectators. In order to demonstrates its readiness, Wembley Stadium had a community day and an under-21 game against Italy, drawing a combined 90,000 to England's new national stadium.

The certification is the result of five long years of work for Wembley Stadium. Early Delaware North operations at the two test events included over 500 sale points and 51 concession stands. The Royal Suite catered for 400 VIPs and over 2,500 corporate meals.
