Delaware North’s Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack in Wheeling, W. Va., last week announced a $6,857 gift to Ohio Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Inc. through its “Game Changer” program and funds raised in the month of October.

Ohio Valley Breast Cancer Awareness Inc. is a charitable organization that supplies products for breast cancer patients at several area hospitals. They annually host the “Driving Fore A Cure” Golf Classic, of which Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack was a sponsor in 2021.

“It’s amazing. It’s really amazing. These kinds of funds can really help so many women in the area, and it’s just, we feel blessed,” said Jackie Shia, a board member for Driving for a Cure.

Donations to the Game Changer program are made through guests’ uncashed casino or racing vouchers that are dropped into donation boxes located on the property. Additionally, associates can make a $5 donation each Friday and wear casual attire during work hours.

“Supporting breast cancer awareness in the month of October has always been something we’ve done,” said Kim Florence, president and general manager of Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack. “Their organization does a great job of raising funds, keeping it local and helping the people we live and work with.”

So far in 2021, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino Racetrack has donated over $37,000 to local charities through the Game Changer program.

“Our guests and team members continue to show, through their participation in the Game Changer program, that they truly care about the community in which we live and work. I’m honored to represent them in presenting these funds to a charity that supports those fighting and winning their battle against breast cancer.”
