Detroit Airport partners with Elephant Poo Poo. Company to provide
unique "green" stationary
BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 8, 2008) - Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services recently welcomed a new, eco-friendly addition to the Detroit Metro Airport: elephant excrement. Elephant Poo Poo Company, a business based out of Ontario, Canada, is partnering with Delaware North to bring its line of recycled journals, stationary, notebooks and books to an airport gift shop, Gayle's Chocolates.
"Here in Detroit, we know our customers are always looking for new, fun and unique gifts, so when I met Elephant Poo Poo Paper Company at our Delaware North retail summit, and saw what they had to offer and how wonderful they were to work with, I knew it would be perfect for us," said Deanna Czapla, retail manager for Delaware North Companies at Detroit Metro Airport. "Their product is perfect, especially now that 'eco-friendly' practices are becoming more common everywhere, everyday."
Elephant Poo Poo Paper Company creates all of its products from recycled, sterilized African and Asian elephant excrement. Through an extensive, all-natural process, excrement fibers are sterilized and mixed with banana tree and pineapple fibers, formed into small cakes and dried in the sun. As a result, paper is formed and transformed into unique, one-of-a-kind products.
"I think our products are the right ones at the right time," said Michael Flancman, founder of Elephant Poo Poo Paper Company. "People are concerned about the environment and preservation, and our products offer a sophisticated, humorous and eco-friendly approach that's unique."
Delaware North has long championed environmental preservation through GreenPath®, a company-wide environmental management system. GreenPath helps Delaware North incorporate environmental considerations into business decisions and reduce the overall discharge and emission of wastes to all environmental media. The company not only recycles tons of raw materials annually, but also attempts to choose environmentally-friendly vendors who contribute positively to the global campaign for a greener earth.
In order to directly cater to their traveling customers, Elephant Poo Poo Paper Company intends to release a Sudoku-like puzzle book in 2008. The book, which will be printed on the elephant-inspired paper, will be the perfect product for travelers looking to stay entertained on a flight and serve as a unique souvenir available only at the Detroit Metro Airport.
