Gateway Café Restaurants Open at Syracuse Hancock International Airport

Delaware North Companies introduces Central New York flavor to two new concepts

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (August 23, 2011) – Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner today announced the opening of the newly renovated Gateway Café restaurants at Syracuse Hancock International Airport. Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services, one of the world’s leading airport food and retail providers, and the City of Syracuse Department of Aviation will celebrate the grand opening of two new concepts this week at the Airport.

The Gateway Café concepts feature a variety of New York State favorites, including:

  • Dinosaur Bar-B-Que, regarded by many as the best barbeque in the nation• Hofmann Sausage, a family-owned and operated company committed to providing superior old-fashioned meat products, including their famous hot dogs, sausages and German mustard
  • Gianelli Sausage, which uses a tried-and-true Old World Italian recipe to create their signature sausages from the highest quality seasonings and meats
  • New York Bakery, a Syracuse family bakery that incorporates modern efficiencies into their traditional European baking methods to provide only the best in breads and rolls
  • Saranac Beer and Saranac 1888 Soft Drinks, produced by Matt Brewing Company, one of the most respected brewers in the United States
  • Bully Hill Vineyards, an innovative estate winery in the Keuka Lake region that offers a wide variety of fine wines made from French-American grapes
  • Paul Delima Coffee, a local Fair Trade Certified Organic coffee roaster and retailer
  • Terrell’s Potato Chips, serving Central New York since 1961

The new concepts complete a $400,000 renovation of two Sbarro restaurants undertaken by Delaware North after being awarded a three-year extension to operate food, beverage and retail at the airport.

Gateway Café North is located in the North Concourse of Terminal B, and Gateway Café South is located in the South Concourse of Terminal A. Gateway Café South replaces a pre-security Sbarro which was converted into the new post-security restaurant.

“The Syracuse area has so many wonderful, nationally-recognized brands,” said Mayor Miner. “To be able to enjoy Dinosaur BBQ, Hofmann’s, and Gianelli’s at the airport will give our residents a “taste” of home as they embark on their travels, and visitors a taste of some of the local flavor our region has to offer.” said Mayor Miner. “I commend Delaware North for making an investment in our airport.”

“We are committed to providing regional favorites in all of our airports,” said Paul Egan, regional director for Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services. “At Syracuse Hancock International Airport, the Gateway Café concepts will give all of our guests a taste of upstate New York.”
