Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment Brings Breast Cancer Fundraising Events to Several Gaming Venues

Each company-owned gaming facility with a greyhound or thoroughbred track will participate in a weeklong fundraiser to benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure
BUFFALO, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2012) – Motivated by the success of Southland Park Gaming & Racing’s Kennel Association’s 2011 Susan G. Komen for the Cure event, the Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment Racing Committee extended its breast-cancer awareness fundraising effort to include each company-owned-and-operated track.

The effort, Run for the Cure, will span Oct. 22 to 28.

During the weeklong effort, greyhounds starting in the No. 1 post position at Daytona Beach Kennel Club & Poker Room, Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack, and Southland Park Gaming & Racing will each wear a pink racing blanket. The jockey on the No. 1-slotted thoroughbred at Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack will don a pink ribbon. If the clad-in-pink greyhound or thoroughbred finishes in first, second, or third place during any of the week’s races, the respective venue will make a donation to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the global breast-cancer awareness foundation.

“In 2011, the Southland Park Gaming & Racing Kennel Association was able to raise $5,000 after just one week’s worth of races by having the No. 1 greyhound wear a pink blanket,” said Fred Guzman, chairman of the Delaware North Companies Gaming & Entertainment Racing Committee. “We are certainly excited at the opportunity to multiply our efforts from a year ago. Adding our additional venues should only help.”
