Salt Lick BBQ reopens at Austin airport with more space, expanded menu

Delaware North has formally announced the opening of a new and expanded airport version of the famous Salt Lick BBQ restaurant at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (ABIA).

Salt Lick’s new restaurant is situated directly across from its original location, between gates 12 and 13 in the Barbara Jordan Terminal, and boasts a larger footprint and dedicated tables with seating for 45. The new Salt Lick offers its classic barbeque favorites, including chopped brisket, smoked turkey, pulled pork and whole brisket sliced fresh at a carving station.

The menu includes staples such as sandwiches and platters, as well as an array of new items that include Salt Lick’s famous ribs, nachos and shredded pork quesadillas. Guests can even ask for a “secret” menu item — a Texas-sized baked potato topped with brisket or smoked turkey.

“Salt Lick has been perfecting Texas-style barbeque for generations, and we are proud to help continue that tradition at ABIA,” said Kevin Kelly, president of Delaware North’s travel division. “The expanded location and its new amenities are a reflection of the popularity of Salt Lick among travelers looking for a true taste of Texas at the airport.”

In addition to more food offerings, the new Salt Lick has its own bar featuring Texas beers and wines to go. Retail items are also available at the location, including Salt Lick’s famous sauces, barbeque spice rubs, cookbooks and gift packs. Travelers can also purchase fully cooked briskets that are frozen and packed in a thermal bag for easy transport.

Since Delaware North brought it to the airport in 1999, The Salt Lick BBQ has been consistently named a top nationwide airport restaurant by various media outlets.
