More than 150 Western New York-based Delaware North employees teamed up to give back at last week’s United Way of Buffalo and Erie County’s Day of Caring.
The team was Delaware North’s largest in 18 years of participating in the Day of Caring. Volunteers from the company’s global headquarters and Hamburg Gaming split into five groups to participate in projects around the community, while associates from KeyBank Center served breakfast and lunch to all of the day’s volunteers.
“Delaware North’s involvement with the United Way dates back to when our chairman first took over the company,” said Delaware North co-CEO Jerry Jacobs Jr. “We are proud to continue to support its great work in our hometown.”
Delaware North’s volunteer assignments varied, but each held true to Delaware North’s roots as a hospitality company.
A group that included Co-CEOs Jerry Jacobs Jr. and Lou Jacobs supported the Food Bank of WNY, filling 20-pound care packages and landscaping overgrown shrubbery. Another group worked at the Meals on Wheels for WNY, making meal deliveries and renovating some office space.
A third group visited the YWCA of WNY, leading activities and teaching children about the importance of healthy living. Other volunteers cleared logs and debris from the kayak launch at Mutual Riverfront Park, while still others refurbished the facilities at the Buffalo Therapeutic Riding Center.
In addition to the Co-CEOs, each of Delaware North’s executive vice presidents — Chris Feeney, Jim Houser, Frank Mendicino and Maureen Sweeny — also participated.
“We are continuously impressed by the generosity of associates,” said Delaware North Co-CEO Lou Jacobs. “Their willingness to be active as volunteers in the communities where we operate is part of what makes Delaware North a great company.”
