Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack hosts 12th annual Charity Cup

Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) hosted its long-standing signature charitable event, the Charity Cup, once again on November 11. Six not-for-profit organizations in the Finger Lakes area competed for a share of $30,000 in donations through an interactive day of handicapping live thoroughbred racing and accumulating points based on how their selections finished in each race.

At the conclusion of an exciting day with over 100 attendees representing the various organizations, Home Meal Service finished on top after correctly selecting winners in four of the six Charity Cup races, and received the top donation of $10,000. The organization’s mission is to assist with the nutritional and social needs of Wayne County residents to help forestall nursing home placements, allow earlier hospital discharges and assist residents with maintaining overall wellness. In 2018 alone, Home Meal Service provided over 53,000 meals for Wayne County residents.

“Congratulations to Home Meal Service and all of our Charity Cup participants,” said Chris Riegle, president and general manager of FLGR. “All of these organizations do great work to make our community a better place, and the team at Finger Lakes is proud to support them.”

FLGR received more than 50 applications from local organizations to be a part of the annual event this year. Since its inaugural year in 2008, the Charity Cup has awarded $360,000 to more than 60 not-for-profit organizations in the region.

The final standings and donations are below:
 

  1. Home Meal Service – $10,000
  2. Jim Dooley Center for Early Learning – $6,000
  3. Children Awaiting Parents – $5,000
  4. Ontario ARC – $4,000
  5. Bridges for Brain Injury – $3,000
  6. Victor/Farmington Food Cupboard – $2,000
