Wellington airport associates honored at annual Celebration Day luncheon

The Delaware North team at Wellington International Airport proudly celebrated the graduation of 14 associates who recently earned certificates in New Zealand’s National Workplace Qualifications.

The associates were feted at the site’s annual Celebration Day luncheon. Also honored at the event was wellingtonairportawards-6237413Delaware North associate Chelsea Hill, who was named Barista of the Year by accredited barista competition judges after a four-week contest.

In attendance were several prominent business partners of the airport, in addition to the families and friends of the honored associates.

Wellington International Airport is an accredited Workplace Qualifications provider, meaning that associates can attain their certifications while working rather than taking time off to attend an institution. The program – which is highly selective and can take up to eight months to complete – resulted in the airport winning the 2015 Hospitality NZ Award of Excellence in Training & Development. It was also recently named a finalist in the 2016 Wellington Business Gold Awards.

Celebration Day, now in its third year, also recognizes a local charity for their contribution to the community. This year’s recipient was Mary Potter Hospice, a nonprofit organization providing assistance to those in need of palliative care and their families. All proceeds from the event, including tickets and auctions of donated goods, were donated to the Hospice.
