Delaware North debuts ‘Boston Winter’ at City Hall Plaza

It was a winter wonderland this week in Boston as officials from the Boston Garden Development Corporation – a subsidiary of Delaware North – celebrated the grand opening of a newly-developed City Hall Plaza.

Under Delaware North’s management, City Hall Plaza will become a year-round destination. Its first season, Boston Winter, includes a European-style holiday shopping market and one-of-a-kind attractions bostonskating-8454920such as wine and chocolate tastings, New England’s first custom-designed skating path and more.

“We are excited to finally debut Boston Winter, an enormous collaboration between the City of Boston, our community partner Berkshire Bank and many other supportive partners,” said Charlie Jacobs, CEO of Delaware North’s Boston Holdings. “We are proud to be bringing to life a space in the heart of City Hall Plaza, where children and adults can gather together to celebrate this joyous time of year. This is a momentous first step, and we are eager to bring activations to this site year round.”

Boston Mayor Marty J. Walsh, whose office selected Boston Garden Development Corporation to develop and enhance the plaza, was thrilled with the results.

“This is truly what we talk about when we discuss enlivening City Hall Plaza,” he said at the grand opening. “Today we see this plaza live up to its potential.”

At the grand opening ceremony, Boston Bruins alumnus Ray Bourque led the ceremonial first skate. In addition, TD Garden President Amy Latimer led the mayor in a walking tour of the attraction, which included holiday carols from Boston Children’s Theatre.

“I’m convinced that this will be a holiday tradition going forward,” Latimer told The Boston Globe.

In warmer months, Delaware North will be installing shaded picnic tables that will provide gathering spots for commuters and visitors. We will also join Mayor Walsh and the Main Streets Foundation, which supports local business districts in Boston, to sponsor the “Beer Garden on Bricks” programming.
