(November 20th, 2013) Guests staying at Lizard Island on the northern end of the Great Barrier Reef can now choose from a raft of helicopter tours to really take advantage of the island’s remote, reef location.

Lizard Island is regarded as the most unique resort location in the world. Identified for its incredible natural beauty and abundant wildlife, the Platinum Class Helicopter itineraries offer yet another breathtaking perspective of this dynamic, colourful ecology.

Scenic helicopter tours range from the 30-minute Lizard Island Discovery Tour and the 60-minute Great Barrier Reef and Coastal Odyssey Tour, to the half-day Tropical Sands Picnic Tour which flies over fringing reefs and abundant marine life before settling on an exotic sand dune surrounded by ancient rainforest and fresh water lakes. 

Prices range from $550 per person for the Lizard Island Discovery Tour, $990 per person for the Great Barrier Reef and Coastal Odyssey Tour, to $1,320 per person for the Tropical Sands Picnic Tour.

If guests also want to arrive like royalty, then the scenic helicopter airport transfer experience from Cairns to Lizard Island return, is the way to go. Priced at $1,760 per person, one way, guests can enjoy a stunning one-and-a-half-hour ride over the Great Barrier Reef, before landing on Lizard Island’s helipad.

Guests can also take the scenic one-hour transfer with Hinterland Aviation, a beautiful flight over the Great Barrier Reef, which costs $670 return, per person.
