Heron Island is calling on its Gladstone friends and neighbours to come up with a name for its new yellow semi-submarine for the chance to win a trip on its maiden voyage.
The lucky winner of the ‘name our semi-sub’ competition will be able to enjoy two nights on Heron Island with their family in a Reef Family Room, boat launch transfers from Gladstone to Heron Island for four people, naming rights of the new semi-sub, seats on the maiden voyage and $300 resort credit during their stay on Heron Island.
The winning semi-submarine name will be printed on the vessel in addition to the buoys and life vests. The competition will be judged by the Heron Island General Manager Ross Greenaway and his team.
The new semi-submarine will allow visitors to see all the marine life within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, without getting wet. The waters around Heron Island are teeming with reef fish, turtles, manta rays, reef sharks and an endless variety of marine invertebrates, such as sea cucumbers and sea urchins.
Around 60% of the 1,500 species of fish and around 72% of the coral species found on the Great Barrier Reef call the waters around Heron Island home.

The competition closes on December 10th, 2013, with the winning entry to be notified on January 10th, 2014.
