LAX’s Encounter Restaurant and Austin’s The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que are Good Bets
BUFFALO, N.Y. (Sept. 15 2009) – Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services operates two of the premier airport restaurants in the world, according to popular travel magazine Travel + Leisure.

The Encounter Restaurant (#3) at Los Angeles International Airport and The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que (#7) in Austin-Bergstrom International Airport earned spots on the publication’s list of the nine best places to dine in airports across the globe. The list includes restaurants from four U.S. airports and others located in Tokyo, Paris, Seoul, Singapore and Lima. The list is featured in Travel + Leisure’s September issue, which is dedicated to travel and food.

“Delaware North is proud of this recognition and happy to know our concepts are so highly regarded in the industry,” said Matt King, president of Delaware North Companies Travel Hospitality Services. “Our company strives to deliver excellent food and customer service at each airport where we operate. This honor speaks to that commitment.”

Equipped with large arches and a space-age design, The Encounter is centrally located in the airport’s Theme Building. Those who dine at The Encounter are treated to a spectacular 360-degree view of the airport and a menu that celebrates “California Fresh” cuisine. The restaurant is accessible pre-security and is one of the most recognizable restaurants in Los Angeles. Travel + Leisure calls The Encounter “(a) 70-foot-high, Jetsonesque restaurant” and notes the view, fare and unique design.

The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que in Hays County, Texas, has gained regional fame for serving open-pit barbecued brisket, pork ribs and sausage for more than 30 years. Delaware North worked with the restaurant’s owner a decade ago to open a second location in the Austin airport. The hands-down favorite restaurant of Austin passengers, The Salt-Lick-Bar-B-Que connects travelers with the rich flavors and culture of Texas. Travel + Leisure praises “the sauce-smothered sandwiches of Austin’s venerable barbecue franchise.”

“The Encounter and The Salt Lick Bar-B-Que are two of our notable concepts and it’s no surprise people are taking notice,” said King.

This is not the first time Delaware North has received accolades from Travel + Leisure. In January of this year, the publication released its 500 World’s Best Hotels List, which included The Ahwahnee in Yosemite National Park. As the official concessionaire in Yosemite, Delaware North operates all culinary operations and guest services at the historic resort.

Travel + Leisure characterizes itself as the premier chronicler of the way the world travels now. The magazine examines the places, ideas and trends that define modern global culture.
