Giving thanks with free meals for traveling military

Thanksgiving is a notoriously busy time for air travelers, including thousands of active duty members of the United States’ armed forces. In what’s become an annual tradition during the holiday season, many Delaware North-operated airport locations will be offering free or discounted meals for traveling military men and women throughout Thanksgiving week to show appreciation for their service.

Delaware North teams at Los Angeles International Airport, Richmond International Airport, Ontario International Airport and Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City will be cooking and serving free Thanksgiving Day meals for all active duty military members at their airport’s United Service Organization’s (USO) outpost on Thanksgiving Day. USO posts are commonplace at many of the nation’s airports with a mission to provide morale, welfare and recreation-type services to men and women in uniform as they leave or return home from active-duty service.

The Nashville International Airport team will be serving up a free meal for military members at Swett’s BBQ, and also providing a discounted meal ($5.99) to all airport and airline personnel who are working Thanksgiving Day. A free breakfast will also be provided for early-morning travelers.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will be offering a free entrée and drink for active duty military members at Delaware North-operated restaurants throughout Thanksgiving week (Nov. 20 through Nov. 26). Participating locations at the airport include Earl Campbell’s Sports Bar, Schlotzsky’s Deli, Maudie’s TexMex, Salt Lick BBQ and Saxon Pub.

Tampa International Airport and TPA Hospitality Partners is offering a similar appreciation meal for military members, who can enjoy a free meal at RumFish Grill, Four Green Fields, Chick-fil-A, Auntie Anne’s, Plane Box kiosk, Panda Express, New York New York Pizza on Thanksgiving Day. In addition, the TPA team will deliver free pizzas to the airport’s USO post throughout the day.

Free meals will also be offered on Thanksgiving Day at Twins Grill at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and Bardenay at the Boise Airport, while a complimentary sandwich will be offered at two locations at Detroit Metrolpolian Airport.

Delaware North locations at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport will be offering a 10 percent discount throughout the holiday week as well.
