Delaware North gives back during Thanksgiving with donations and dinners

Several Delaware North locations and associates chose to celebrate Thanksgiving by giving back to the communities in which they operate. Below are a few examples.

Food donation to Buffalo mission helps provide holiday meals for thousands

More than 5,000 Western New York residents in need have been able to enjoy a complete meal this holiday season thanks in large part to a major donation from Delaware North to Saint Luke’s Mission of Mercy in Delaware North’s hometown of Buffalo, N.Y.

Delaware North — as part of The Big Show, which recently took place in Buffalo — worked with supplier Tyson Foods to provide the mission with about 16,000 pounds of chicken, or about 5,500 chickens delivered in 290 cases.

The chickens are included in hundreds of food baskets the mission puts together for families in need during Thanksgiving and Christmas. In addition to vegetables and other essentials for a holiday meal, each basket contains a 3-pound chicken.

The mission raises about $5,000 from other sources toward the chicken donation, with Delaware North and Tyson covering the rest of the approximately $25,000 worth of chicken. 2017 marks the fifth consecutive year Delaware North and Tyson have made such a donation to the mission.

Progressive Field hosts Thanksgiving-style dinner

After finishing the Major League Baseball season with the best record in the American League, the Cleveland Indians had plenty to be thankful for this year. To show their appreciation to the community, the Indians partnered with Delaware North Sportservice to host several charitable organizations last weekend for a Thanksgiving meal at Progressive Field.

Paul Dolan, owner of the Indians, and several other team executives were on hand to serve the meal of Thanksgiving favorites, including turkey, stuffing and pie, at one of the ballpark’s club levels. More than 400 people were served throughout the afternoon, coming from several area charities, including Our Lady of the Wayside, Shoes and Clothes for Kids, Boys and Girls Club, Ohio Guidestone and the City Mission.

Southland Park associates give back for Thanksgiving

Southland Park Gaming & Racing on Tuesday provided 121 turkeys to local charities Hughes Outreach Ministries and Good Neighbor Love Center.

Each year, Southland Park associates are provided turkeys by the company as a gift for Thanksgiving. Several associates, in turn, opt to donate those turkeys to those in need.

“Each holiday season, we are so proud of the generosity shown by our associates,” said David Wolf, president and general manager of the Delaware North-owned-and-operated gaming venue in West Memphis, Ark. “Giving to others is what the holidays are about and Southland Park is happy to seize every opportunity to help its community.”
