BUFFALO, N.Y. (August 27, 2007) - Delaware North Companies Sportservice, a global leader in food, beverage and retail management, has garnered significant recognition in the annual ranking of the top vegetarian friendly Major League ballparks recently released by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
Seven ballparks at which Sportservice operates food concessions or premium and fine dining were recognized by PETA -- three were ranked in the top seven of the list of 10, and four others received honorable mention.
Petco Park, home of the San Diego Padres, ranked fourth; Busch Stadium, home of the St. Louis Cardinals, was fifth; and Rogers Centre, where the Toronto Blue Jays play, was seventh. Comerica Park in Detroit, Cleveland's Jacobs Field, Miller Park in Milwaukee and U.S Cellular Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, received honorable mention.
"We are very pleased to have such strong representation in PETA's annual assessment of top vegetarian friendly ballparks," said Rick Abramson, Sportservice president. "In addition to classic standbys such as peanuts and pretzels, regional favorites, and fine cuisine, Delaware North is committed to providing a wide variety of quality vegetarian offerings for all of our fans."
Among the vegetarian options offered by Sportservice at the ballparks cited are fresh fruit salads, vegetable and Chinese noodle stir fry's, edamame, hummus and other Mediterranean specialties. Of course there are also veggie burgers, veggie dogs, veggie subs, veggie paninis and veggie burritos
Delaware North Companies should be applauded for going to bat for the increasing number of baseball fans who prefer delicious, healthy vegetarian options, said Dan Shannon, PETA's assistant director.
