Indoor Lacrosse Headed To TD Banknorth Garden

Boston Awarded 14th Franchise in the National Lacrosse League

BUFFALO, N.Y. (May 24, 2007) — Delaware North Companies Boston can now add indoor lacrosse events to next year’s TD Banknorth’s Schedule as a recent announcement revealed the 14th National Lacrosse League franchise will play out of Boston, beginning with the 2008 season.

John Wentzell, president of Delaware North Companies Boston and TD Banknorth Garden teamed up with the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Commissioner, Jim Jennings to make the announcement that Boston’s TD Banknorth Garden, home to the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics, will host an indoor lacrosse team as of January 2008.

“We are proud to welcome back the National Lacrosse League and are happy they will be calling TD Banknorth Garden home,” said Wentzell. “This booming sport with action-packed play and passionate fan base is a great fit for our city and arena. We’re looking forward to providing the team and fans with a world-class experience in one of the country’s premiere venues.”

This is a return to Boston for indoor lacrosse. The NLL previously had a franchise known as the Boston Blazers, which played at the Boston Garden and subsequently the FleetCenter from 1992-1997. The league has grown dramatically since then. It now has 13 teams across the United States and Canada, weekly national television games and a 16-game regular season. Boston’s new NLL expansion team will play eight home games at the Garden each season.
