Miami Valley Gaming in Ohio proposing $100 million expansion

Joint venture project with Churchill Downs Inc. to include hotel, restaurant, parking garage, expanded gaming floor and more VLT machines

LEBANON, Ohio (Oct.31, 2019) – Miami Valley Gaming, which Delaware North owns and operates in a joint venture with Churchill Downs Inc., is proposing an approximately $100 million expansion project that would include a hotel, restaurant, parking garage and additional gaming machines.Delaware North's Miami Valley Gaming proposes $100 million expansion

The gaming and racing venue, located in southwest Ohio between Cincinnati and Dayton, opened in December 2013 with about 1,500 video lottery terminal (VLT) gaming machines and currently has over 1,900 VLTs.

The proposed expansion would add up to 250 additional VLTs, bringing the total in operation to about 2,200 VLTs, and add over 10,000 square feet of gaming floor space.

The hotel would have 194 rooms, while the parking garage would have spaces for about 1,000 cars. The hotel would allow the venue to expand its market beyond Cincinnati and Dayton by attracting business from major cities within a few hours’ drive such as Columbus and Indianapolis. The garage will help address parking constraints that the venue has experienced this year on busy weekends and holidays.

“Miami Valley Gaming has been a tremendously successful gaming and entertainment venue, and this expansion project will enhance the guest experience and make it more of an overnight and weekend-stay tourism destination,” said Brian Hansberry, president of Delaware North’s gaming division.

The expansion project will create about 300 jobs during construction and about 100 permanent positions when complete in the first half of 2021. Miami Valley Gaming currently employs over 450 workers and is actively seeking to fill nearly 50 full- and part-time positions.

Since opening, Miami Valley Gaming has delivered more than $270 million in gaming taxes to the Ohio Lottery and $83 million in taxes to the Ohio Harness Horseman’s Association.

“We’re looking forward to working with our state and local leaders to turn the proposal into reality,” said Domenic Mancini, president and general manager at Miami Valley Gaming.

Thalden Boyd Emery (TBE), an architecture firm based out of Missouri, has been retained to design and develop the expansion project. TBE, which designed the existing Miami Valley Gaming facility, is an award-winning architectural firm specializing in the design of hotels, casinos, resorts and related hospitality projects.

In addition to its gaming machines, Miami Valley Gaming has four restaurants, two bars, a 5/8-mile harness racetrack with indoor grandstand, and racing simulcast center. The facility also has become known as a great place to catch a concert or even spend the day at a specialty festival or event. Musical acts such as Travis Tritt, Big & Rich and Billy Ray Cyrus have recently played at the venue. Thousands of people turned out this summer for Miami Valley Gaming’s annual craft beer festival in June and the annual Trucks on the Track food truck rally and signature Chicken Wing and Classic Rock festival in July.
