Hamburg Gaming opens $2 million gaming veranda

Accommodates added gaming machines at Erie County Fairgrounds entertainment venue

HAMBURG, N.Y. (June 11, 2019) – Hamburg Gaming today opened a $2 million gaming veranda as an extension of its gaming floor to allow the venue to feature additional video lottery terminal (VLT) gaming machines.

The 3,000-square-foot gaming veranda on the north side of the building accommodates about 76 VLTs, all equipped with height-adjustable memory-foam gaming chairs. Of those VLTs, about 45 were moved from the current 53,000-square-foot-gaming floor to provide easier patron flow in some areas. In total, Hamburg Gaming has added 31 VLTs, bringing its total to 929.

“We have been looking at ways to provide our loyal patrons more options for gaming, including playing while they enjoy the outdoors,” said Robert Puhalski, general manager of Hamburg Gaming.

Puhalski oversees the gaming venue for Buffalo-based global hospitality company Delaware North, which has operated Hamburg Gaming for the Erie County Agriculture Society since it opened in 2004.

The veranda will also feature radiant heat from both the floor and ceiling and be vented to allow smoking.

“Delaware North has had great success with this concept at Miami Valley Gaming, our gaming venue in Ohio, so we think people are going to love it here. It will give folks a chance to have a different gaming experience,” Puhalski said.
.
Hamburg Gaming has also installed more signage throughout the venue, and renovations have been made to the venue’s Blue Ribbon Grill to enhance the guest experience.

With this new project, the Erie County Agricultural Society and Delaware North will have made nearly $4 million in improvements to Hamburg Gaming since 2017. That year, a renovation of the gaming floor was completed, including new carpeting, lighting, and tile entrance and walkways, as well as the addition of the new height-adjustable memory-foam gaming chairs at all the gaming machines. The floor was also reconfigured to open up views and access to the venue's popular Cyclone Bar.

The current Hamburg Gaming building opened in 2010 after the gaming operation was moved from underneath the Buffalo Raceway grandstand.

Hamburg Gaming employs 250 people in Western New York and has an overall economic impact of about $21 million, according to the New York Gaming Association. In addition, Hamburg Gaming generates about $20 million annually for education in New York State.
