Boston’s City Hall Plaza transformed into winter wonderland

TD Garden President Amy Latimer was joined last week by Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Boston Bruins alumnus Ray Bourque and other dignitaries at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to open Boston Winter presented by Berkshire Bank, an open-air holiday festival at Boston’s City Hall Plaza. The opening ceremony celebration also included a tree-lighting and a ceremonial first skate on New England’s only skating path – with a special visit from the most revered trophy in all of sports: the Stanley Cup.

Boston Winter presented by Berkshire Bank, which was created by Delaware North subsidiary Boston Garden Development as part of a three-year seasonal activation, attracted more than 300,000 visitors in its debut season in 2016.

This year, the rink has been reconfigured for an entirely new skating experience. The outdoor skating path offers learn-to-skate programs, promotional nights and themed skating sessions. Visitors can rent skates and glide around the all-new Boston Winter Holiday Tree and the “Boston” marquee sign. The skating path will remain open through Feb. 25, 2018, weather permitting.

The European-style holiday market also made its return. The holiday shopping market includes more than 80 local and international vendors, including Grace Oliver, LovePop Cards, and Abnormal Creations. These boutique-style chalets offer visitors exquisite crafts and distinctive gifts such as decorative items, apparel, jewelry, art and toys.
